The Public Works Division of the Town of Mount Royal’s Technical Services is looking for a Section Head to plan, direct, coordinate and control the management and monitoring of all operational activities of public works, municipal services and buildings, as well as the management of operational contracts entrusted to private companies.

EXAMPLES OF TASKS PERFORMED

Management:

  • Exercise leadership by promoting the participation, commitment and motivation of employees in your teams: coordinate their work, participate in their performance evaluations and recommend appropriate interventions;
  • Monitors customer service provided by the employees and manages citizens’ expectations;
  • Offers coaching, advice and technical support to your employees;
  • Coordinates the department’s activities, establishes and maintains a control process;
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards and ensures that workers wear appropriate protective equipment;
  • Develops work and employee training processes;
  • Supervises occupational health and safety (OHS) activities for the Division and participates in the development of this culture.

Municipal services:

  • Ensures the delivery of municipal services, participates in building maintenance activities and the management of the mechanical garage;
  • Intervenes to implement preventive maintenance programs by applying innovative working methods;
  • Collaborates with the assistant director, the foreman and with the entire team to issue directives and orientations regarding the work to be carried out;
  • Ensures the follow-up of preventive maintenance of the vehicle fleet using a CMMS type software;
  • Ensures the annual maintenance of the building’s mechanical systems and implements a maintenance program using CMMS-type software;
  • Approves technical specifications and ensures the supervision of service, maintenance and repair contracts and provides expertise in the execution of on-site work;
  • Assists in the development of the division’s operating budget as well as the three-year capital program.

Requested skills

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a first-degree university diploma in a related field;
  • Possess four (4) years of experience in a job in the Public Works’ field or equivalent;
  • Possess two (2) years of experience in management or in the coordination of a work team;
  • Experience in process implementation;
  • Good knowledge of the municipal sector;
  • Experience in a unionized environment;
  • Lean training (an asset);
  • Bilingualism (French and English*);
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (class 5);
  • ASP Construction Card.

*Knowledge of English is a requirement due to potential interactions with the Town’s citizens.
