The successful applicant will support the Network Engineering team within Hydro One Telecom, analyzing and implementing alternative technology and network delivery models for the Commercial LOB. You are a resourceful, self-starter with a natural ability to establish strong working relationships. You are results-driven and action-oriented to getting the job done right. You also demonstrate an aptitude for building technical requirements, understanding telecommunications requirements to contribute the Hydro One Telecom work program. General Accountabilities: Assist management team and members of the Network Engineering team with the following: Implement designs through established change management process. Contribute to engineering standards Evaluation of new or revised telecommunication/data/optical products, software or hardware, independently or in conjunction staff from other units. Proof of concept testing to determine applicability and adaptability of highly complex telecommunication technologies. Support design of high availability/fault tolerant/secure optical network solutions meeting corporate architectural initiative. Interface with other units as required. Position will provide you with the following professional development : The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work directly under the supervision of the Network Engineering team, where they will be able to participate directly in projects. This will develop hands-on Engineering skills including the design and planning of telecommunications networks. The successful applicant will learn how to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, how to work as part of a functional and project team, including written and oral communication skills. The successful applicant will learn the practical use of various software tools to support the Engineering function such as MS Office (Visio, Excel, Word), various data base platforms, and various OSS/BSS tools to support the telecommunications business. Selection Criteria: 3rd or 4th year Computer or Electrical Engineering Student. Foundational understanding of telecommunication principles as it relates to optical networking, ethernet switching and/or routing technologies. Knowledge in design, implementation, commissioning and/or performance analysis of telecommunication networks and technologies. Experience working in a team environment on multidisciplinary projects. Experience in diagnoses and troubleshooting of problems within telecommunication systems. Experience producing various technical and performance reports/documents, with various software applications such as MS Word, Excel, Project and Visio. Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer commitment Demonstration of time-management skills. Team and individual problem solving and strong analytical skills Can work independently or in small team environment Hydro One requires that all students applying for student opportunities be enrolled in post-secondary level studies and be returning to full-time studies upon the completion of their work term.
