Qualifications:
Medical Degree (MD): A degree in medicine from an accredited institution.
Registration: Active registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment:
Examine patients and document medical histories.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory tests and imaging (e.g., X-rays).
Treatment and Care:
Prescribe and administer medications and treatments.
Perform or assist in routine and emergency surgeries.
Provide emergency care and acute care management.
Deliver babies and manage pre-natal and post-natal care.
Vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases.
Health Promotion and Counseling:
Advise patients and families on health care, including prevention of diseases and accidents.
Provide counseling on health and lifestyle issues.
Advocate for patient needs and provide continuous care.
Administrative Duties:
Supervise home care services.
Report births, deaths, and communicable diseases to governmental authorities.
Collaboration:
Consult with other medical practitioners and specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Coordinate and manage primary patient care.
