Job Summary: We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Finance to lead the financial planning, cost accounting, and reporting functions at Trillium Health Care Products Inc., a leading Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO). This role is critical for overseeing the company’s standard costing system, financial performance, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.
Duties:
Financial Leadership & Strategy:
o Developing, executing, and implementing financial strategies to optimize profitability, cost efficiency, and operational performance
o Partnering with executive leadership to drive business decisions through data-driven financial insights
o Overseeing and evaluating the Financial Planning and analysis function including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes and making recommendations to executive leadership
o Reporting to executive leadership concerning any trends that are critical to the organization's financial performance
Cost Accounting & Standard Costing Oversight:
o Supervising and overseeing the standard costing system, ensuring accurate cost models for raw materials, labour, and overhead
o Directing cost variance analysis and working with operations to identify cost-savings opportunities
o Ensuring alignment between standard costs, actual production costs, and financial reporting
o Analyzing and reporting on production cost variances (material, labour, overhead) and investigating discrepancies
o Providing actionable insights to operations to improve cost efficiency
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
o Ensuring timely and accurate month-end close, including inventory valuation, COGS analysis, and gross margin reporting
o Maintaining compliance with GAAP and CRA
o Serving as the primary liaison for external auditors on all accounting, cost accounting and inventory-related matters
ERP & Process Improvement:
o Implementing best practices in financial controls, cost tracking, and automation
o Identifying opportunities to streamline cost accounting processes and enhancing ERP system functionality for cost accounting, inventory management, and financial reporting
o Supporting new product costing and profitability analysis
Team Leadership & Development:
o Managing and mentoring the finance team, including cost accountants, financial analysts, and other staff
o Recruiting, organizing and training finance staff
o Fostering cross-functional collaboration with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality and Business Development to align financial and operational goals
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Working closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and finance teams to align cost data with operational performance
o Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and regulatory and financial audits as needed
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce, business administration, economics or related field is required
• 7+ years of progressive finance experience is required
• 4+ years of experience in a leadership role within a pharmaceutical, life sciences or manufacturing business is required
• CPA is required
• Deep knowledge of standard costing, production variances, cost accounting, and inventory management in a regulated environment
• Proficiency in ERP systems (especially Microsoft Business Central) and advanced financial modeling
• Strong understanding of GAAP, CRA, and transfer pricing requirements
• A proven ability to lead teams, influence executives, and drive financial performance
